I have a 1988 nissan pickup with a loud kncking. i checked the oil and it was low.i added the correct amount of oil and the knocking got louder and more constant (before it was just knocking at higher rpms when i accelerated)i'm assuming it is a piston rod bearing.due to finances i am forced to drive it.how long do i have before i completly blow the motor and have to replace it?Also how long would it take for a home mechanic with a hanes manual to swap engines.I have access to all required tools and a cherry picker.

Greetings michael, welcome to the Forum.

I've seen engines run a long time with a Rod knocking. Keep the RPM's low. amd there's no telling how long you can baby it along.

You probably can get the engine swapped out in about a day or less.
Good luck.

Ghave a good Day !
