Hi all...I have a 91 buick regal that has a tranny issue. This morning my DH was coming home from work and on the highway it would just slip out of 3rd gear all of the sudden. We checked the fluid...was a little low and we filled it up. Went on the hiway again to check it out and now it will not shift between 2nd and 3rd gears. It slips into neutral or so it seems. We had a mechanic tell us what it might be without even looking at it but I live in Mexico where mechanics are sometimes known to work you for a pretty penny if you don't know better. I would like to know for sure what is going on. Would this possibly be a fix that someone with light mechanical knowledge be able to do at home?
We replaced the engine about 6 months ago. And car has been running great. The tranny has about 150k on it. Thanks so much for any help!!

I would check the vacuum line going to the tranny, it might have popped off or broken. It would be a steel line with rubber hose on each end, one on engine and one on the tranny.
