My 1994 Astro AWD sputters as soon as I try to go over about 1500 rpm. It starts well warm or cold. The fuel pressure is 55psi when key is turned on and at idle. When I give gas the pressure rises to 60 psi. However, when the key is turned off the pressure goes down very fast. A few weeks before the trouble started there seemed to have been problems with the connector or wire to the fuel injector. The engine would stall and only start to stop very soon with sputtering. I cleaned the connector and with that manipulated the wire and the engine ran fine for about two weeks. Now I can only apply very light gas and it takes too long to get up to 30mph. If I floor the gas pedal the motor sputters and backfires for a while and then guns the car forward.

The wires, cap and rotor are new and the timing is at the mark. Although having been master mechanic with VW I need help. Is there anyone who can point me to the problem? Thanks already, Dietrich

I was out of town for a few days that is why I only read your question now. If the fuel filter would be the problem the fuel pressure would fall when you give gas and prticularly under load. My engine just does not want to break the limit of about 1500 rpm. The fuel pressure goes to 60psi when I give gas and it stays there.
