hi, i have a 97 astro and it just died on me. i drove it for about 1 hour this morning and then it stalled at a traffic light. when i turn it over it just cranks but wont start. i gave it some gas while trying to start it and it still wont start. i could not smell fuel so it doesn't seem flooded. this makes me think there is a problem with the fuel pump. it has been a little harder to start over the last week but now wont start at all. any suggestions? thanks, peace!

wearing goggles remove the cap on the fuel rail and press it in with a pencil with the ignition to on. if fuel comes squirting out then its getting fuel.

It could very well be your fuel pump. You need to verify how much pressure id getting to the manifold. If you're getting 35-40 psi, check a manual, it may need 60-65 psi for initial start up (prime), but only use 35-40 psi while running. Have seen this happen more than once. Turn the key and thurn turn the key, 4x then next time it might be 8 or 10x and it starts (doing this builds the prime, off, on, off, on). In time the pump just gets too weak to push the fuel.

Again - I have had 2 Astro vans and a friend of mine has had the exact same issue - Check the ground on the frame rail that is grounding the fuel pump itself, it is under the Driver side of the van coming near the harness going to the Pump.

Good Luck
