I'm having a problem getting the new fuel pump to compress enough to get the snap ring in place. Can anyone give me a suggestion how to make this work?

is this a direct replacement or after market.if its in a rubber mounting to cusion noise you may have to remove rubber sleeve for after market pump is a little bigger then the orginal.i ran into this twice on olds calaise, buick skylark that other people own.it fits you have to use a little engineering of you own.or they might have given you the wrong one.

i own an olds delta 88 3.8 and several g.m. cars never have seen a bad fuel pump.what i have seen is ignition module going bad and the car acts like a fuel pump.car will shut off wait awhile start back run then shut off again.the fuel pump relay is design to shut off fuel pump when module is going bad to prevent fuel build up in the intakes so engine does not explodes in your face.from 1986 to 2000. 10 billion fuel pumps were change by mistake to find out ignition module was the failure.the 3.8 v6 engine is noted for module failure begins with a idle skip the get wrose when driving the engine will occasionally skip like a fuel problem my delta88 has been doing this for two years. as long as it starts i just run it.its never quit on me.check engine light is on.gas mile does not seem to be effected.so i run it till it quits then i will either fix it or junk at 237,000 miles on it i am not to insterted in repairing it. also 3.8s have fuel injector failures that causes cut out or skip. also i have a feeling your looking in the wrong place.but i wouldnt jump on pump right away, run it if it runs at all drive it till it quits. paying 55.00 u.s. dollars last i knew for a pump is expensive mistake ignition module is about 85.. u.s. dollars last price i got last year.add the two together.????

if you change module you change all three coils one of them caused the failure.last ones i bought was 25.00 u.s. dollar each x3 plus 6% sales tax

see what i trying to point out be sure your going in right direction ???.

Thank you for your reply. As it turns out, I just needed to put some vaseline on the new O ring to get it to seat properly. I new it was the pump because there was no indication of a problem when it just wouldn't start so I put in a new pump relay (3.99 online) and tested the fuel system pressure which was 0. I found a fuel pump online for $250.00 which was 100 less than they wanted at the dealer and yes the after market pumps are slightly larger.

be ware that fuel pressure can be zero in ignition module is bad the way i tested my pumps is turn on key you should hear relay click then brrrr noise the pump runs for a few seconds then stops.(turn key on do not start engine and listen for pump up and stop.)i continues to run then their a leak.injector.line filter.pump prime.fuel filter etc.zero pressure could also fuel regulator jamed close on injector fuel rail.i sincerly hope this works out for you.at the parts prices and car has over 100,000 miles i my self would junk the car its not worth it.i would never pay three hundred for a pump not worth it to me.

Have you ever driven a supercharged Buick Regal? If you had you would know why I work so hard to keep it. this is the first major repair this car has needed since new. I can justify a 300 dollar fuel pump after 10 years of faithful service. Not to mention I have yet to find a car that rides like this one.And yes I did listen with the key(not the engine) on for the fuel pump to start and it was silent. P.S. The new pump added about 3 psi over the original so she's a screamer again!

i have a 1998 buick regal 3.8 supercharged,i have only owned it for about 5 months i thought is was great untill last week the water pump went out,i fixed that, now i think the fuel pump went out, maybe someone could help me make sure.first the car would not start sat over night and started in the morning,4 days later would not start at night, but started in the morning did this for about a week, then it would not start one day leaving the store, and never started again.when you turn the key on can not hear the fuel pump,as far as the relays i switched relays and still the same,it never ran bad in anyway,is it possible for the pump to just go out like that or could it be something else, thanks

That is exactly what mine did. A new fuel pump, located in the trunk, was all it needed, has ran perfectly ever since and that was a while ago now.
