I need tips on swapping out a used 2002 Hyundai Accent Transmission? What tools, and parts will I need? Will it have to be on a lift, will I have to lift the engine out or will the old one just "drop out"?

you going need a good selection of metric wrenches box open ends sockets also need a axle puller you need a pickel forks to remove tie rod ends and lower ball joint. a good pry bar about 10 feet long and a good floor jack to put under tranny makes it easier to lower down.i not sure but their may be a k frame you have to lower if so you will need the tool fore holding engine in place.its a frame work goes across from front frame to fire wall look at a haynes manual for special instructions it could get a little dangrous under car unless you use required safty recommendations.i always try to warn home machanics no car is worth getting hurt especially if you family man and your the only income.read your manual first look at car locate where things are and you will see that it will be easy to do.remember safty first.use jack stands behind front wheels under drivers doors area and block rear wheels you will not have park.

Greetings,
hobbist, I'm a new 99 Accent owner and I'm looking to do the same thing. I want to swap my auto for a manual. Any info and knowledge on this would be very much appreciated. I'm familiar with Hyundai as I am a former Kia owner so, I know about there reliability and the companies rep. I just don't like autos and lookin to do this ASAP. Anyway, any help would be great. Thanks,
Spek5

i do not see the point the newer auto tranny or more fuel efficent than ever and a lot of them can be shifted manually like a standard.to switch to manual your going to need a solid flywheel clutch, throw out bearing ,pressure plate, you might have to change cv joints ???.you need to support engine to remove lower engine cradle to remove the tranny why did buy this model would been wiser to find a standard SHIFT model thats a lot of work to act like a fool on the high way.and see how many tires you can BURNNNNNNN.>>>>>>>>>.

Hobbist,
I worked on cars all my life for the most part. My trade is a mechanic although I do not work in the industry any longer. I was looking for some friendly advice not to be derided or what not. I do not like the auto tranny I much rather prefer the manual. personal preference and I got this model as you said because it's the one car that I could afford to get at this point in time and knew about the company because of my past experience with Kia. At any rate, I was looking for advice... nothing more. If u can do that please, that would be fine.

Thanks,
Spek5
