Ranger has been worked on 4 times by the same place in the last 4 weeks. The fuel pump has been replaced twice, as well as having a new fuel filter, relay, pigtail and wiring. New plugs and wires were installed on the second trip back. It is starting to run rough again. This is what happens before it just will not start. When driving down the road, it starts to hesitate ever so slightly. The initial problem was that it would turn over but not start. A Ford dealership ran a diagnostic before taking it back to the independent mechanic the third time. Dealership said it was fuel pump code. I have no clue what is going on, but I am about ready to drive it off a cliff. ANY ideas and suggestions would be appreciated.

I would check to see if the fuel filter was put in the right way, easy to mess up.

and did the mechanic change the fuel screen at the pump?

I have got a vehicle with the same problem.
The fuel pump sometimes just stop working.
The last time, I got it to start is by moving on the wiring connecter plug of the pigtail to the top of the fueltank.I traced the power wire for the pump. This wire has been cut and connected to an immmobilizer control box by the drivers side kick panel. At the moment I must wait for the vehicle to give me problems again before i will start replacing parts.
The immobilizer have got a relay and works with the fuel pump relay. So you might have a fault here.

I got my Ranger to die again.I then traced the fault to the Immobilizer circuit,Bypassed that circuit and gave the vehicle back to the customer. He has been driving now for almost 2 weeks with No complaints so far.
Can you let me know if your problem has been solved.

Thanks

Pierre
