help black box appears over top of picture

help.. when i turn the tv on the picture comes on then in about 5 sec a black box appears on the screen in front of the picture.Ithen hit the menu button and it goes away then comes back agin. if i disconnect the cable it goes away also..just a blue screen appears .does anybody have a guess on this?? thanks

yes your t.v. is in the closed caption text mode.this happens all the time usually by someone hitting the wrong button on the remoteyou can change the setting by the cc button on the remote or go into the main menu and turn it off.if you need the words for closed caption then you can leave the setting to cc1 if not it should be turned off.hope this helps
