Hi Creepfast10 welcome to the forum I hope you will like it here.

It could be the linkage or the gear/band.... Check those

what engine do you have is this a four speed auto and i take it 4 wheel drive no.two possibles one is your parking brake is on either stuck cables something is over adjusted in rear drum.if tranny is a 700r4 same as a 4L60 4 speed tranny needs a over haul.check brakes first one wheel my not be turning jack one at a time try to spin it.some of these had valve body failure it was a certain mfg i forget the name sonna or something like that.see cars forums some else on this site had the same problem look at 4t60 couple of others the mfg was mention.

still check rear brake drums the brake shoes can jam in one direction and not the other.transmission is a 3L60 3 SPEED with od.this tranny has a defective valve body from the word go.G.M. took a cheap root as usaul to cut mfg cost.the valve body is your next move.recommend remanfactured one they had to enlarge one of the valve ports install a larger valve or have yours rebuilt to the new speck.

700r4 was a general motors abortion 85% failure rate you have only one fix over haul detent cable is only used to select forward gears and reverse. if truck starts in neutral and park detent cable is ok.this is all i can recommend tear down or replace.

this is a long shot try this remove pan drain fluid change filter go to parts house or order a recondition valve body.go to www.sonnax.com bottom page order valve body dvd and order valve bodywith mod.it trys to go in reverse leads me to beleive the main gear train my be ok the valve for reverse is stuck or electric coil is burnt out.700r4 is all electric seloniod control.you have nothing to loose my get away with it you be supprise i have done wild shots my self over the years and got away with it.good luck try it.
