GGGGRRRRRRRR!!!!!! ok....i feel better now. I have been fighting with this car for months now. After replacing the ECU and repairing the wiring to a number of sensors I finally got the engine straightened out only to find that this thing will only run in 3rd. It shifts from park to reverse and drive fine but it appears to only have 3rd gear. (engine winds up, slow take off.....torque converter slingin like crazy) So....is the a life ending disorder or is there a silver bullet I dont know about?

Thanks folks.

sounds like the eeprom chip is the wrong one the transmission is electronic controled by ecm.take the eeprom out of your orginal ecm and place it in the replacement.you do not know exatly what car the ecm was removed from it might had been a standard two different animals.start their and see.

Yes hobbist. thank you ever so much!! Only problem I have now is that I didn't actually swap out the ECU. I pulled it and sent it to a shop in FLA who rebuilds them. I guess they will be getting a call from me this morning. Once again, thank you. You have saved my kid's car from the crusher! (hopefully)

torque converter is under strain or its bad. you did not mention you had ecm sent out for rebuild.rebuilder should have know what eeprom chip is required.before you send it back try to rent a hand held scanner and see what code is appearing if transmission is bad you should have a code for incorrect shift patterns.chrysler used this same power train also all mitsubishi voyager and dodge caravan.the transmissions also had a high failure rate.many engine problems electrical also ignition switches.alternators you name it.young teenagers like these galants.their ok if they run right their not a bad car just has many design problems.no q.c.on the line.alternator last i knew was 300.00 for these chrysler alt is the same one.
