I have a 97 ford ranger that runs just fine until about 12pm-3pm. I have replaced the fuel pump 2 months ago and on the 2nd fuel filter in 2 months. when it dies you can release the pressure on the rail and all air comes out. barely any fuel. it wont run for an hour also. this is happening in southern arizona so its really hot, I have been reading the vapor lock threads here but with all the air coming out of the rail im thinking it could be a rare case.

I am having the EXACT same problem with my 1996 Ford Club Wagon. Returning from a trip to CO, when temps got above 90 degrees traveling at speed was fine, soon as I hit the breaks it started to hesitate. Let it sit and cool for at least 30 minute and it would start up and go for awhile. Dealer can find nothing wrong. Is it the ethanol they put in gas now reducing the boiling temp? Someone told me the mesh screen on the uptake tube warps when warm and this may be plugging the flow of fuel?

Ethanol will not do that.

I think its something in the electronics.
