2004 Acura RSX 2.0 Vtec, 66K miles. Experiencing rather loud "bearing" roar from right (PS)of engine. Key is that noise seems to stop with A/C ON. Removed single serpentine belt and confirmed noise stopped "as expected". Can not locate component source of the noise, "sounds everywhere". Pwr Steering, water pump, idler and A/C pulley all feel smooth with when rotated by hand. Assuming A/C pulley bearing bad. OEM pulley cost of $145 + shipping. Will require compressor removal to access. Would appreciate confirmation prior to doing the work.

to better pin point noise there are two things that u can try one is if u have a long screw driver (long shaft) you can use the tip of the screwdriver next to/or as close as you can to each pulley/bearing. with the car running put your ear to thr handle of the screwdriver. the louder the noise is most likely the problem, the other and safer way is to get whats called a mechanics stehoscope this can be found at most auto parts stores good luck..

Thank you for your response.
I have tried using a 3/4" dia. wooden rod. I don't know if because the auto-tensioner allows all of the aluminum belt driven items (PS, Wtr Pump, Alt, A/C) to be solidedly bolted to the Al block, but the high pitched sound seemed to come from everywhere and could not isolate the sound to one device. Because the noise all but stopped when I turn on the A/C, I'm inclined to believe that the A/C drive pulley is problem. I will try the screw driver approach to see if it helps.
Thanks again....Rick
