My friend owns a Tahoe and we were discussing how the A/C system works and are now confused.
Question: With the A/C selected on, does the compressor work less as the temperature selector is increased to the warm side or is the system simply mixing heat with cool air to arrive at a more comfortable temp while the compressor remains running at its normal pace?

Thanks,

Wally

its mixing heat with the cold air. the compressor turns at the same speed. its either on or off. all you do is control the temp.

Yes, exactly as he stated. When you turn on the A/C, it engages the clutch on the compressor and it starts turning via the accessory belt on the car. No variable speeds, just on or off.
