My husband has recently bought a 93 gmc pickup and it just started to leak antifreeze. The problem is it looks like it is coming from the top where the hose goes into the engine. I told him to change the hose but he said that when he would squeeze the hose it felt empty. Does any one know what it might have wrong with it??

Greetings Trouble welcome to the Forum.

When that stuff gets all over an engine, it's hard to tell where it came from for sure !

Need to get it where you can see the leak.
When the Engine is cold, give it a wash with your water hose, and get that Glycol out of the way. Won't hurt it a bit.

At this point, you've probably diluted the mix on the Coolant enough where it probably isn't doing much, so I'd fill the radiator up with just plain water, cap it, crank it up, and let it run till it gets up to temperature.

When it does, that top hose will be pretty tight/hard. You should be able to see where the leak is coming from at that time.

I'm thinking the Hose needs replacing or Clamps on it are loose, but, it may be a heater hose which some are pretty close to the Main Hose to the radiator.

The other area is the Thermostat Housing Gasket. But, they are much less prone to fail over time, than are the Hoses.

93, if nothing has been done to that thing in more than fifteen years, you probably should consider replacing both Radiator and Heater Hoses on it. Since you're probably going to be draining it anyway to replace one, why not get the whole job done and over with.

That Coolant goes back at 50/50%.
The way I do it is pour 1/2 of the gallon out into a Jar or some other clean container, fill the Antifreeze original container up with water which makes a 50% solution. Pour that in, and then return the removed fluid to the Jug, fill it up with water, and you got another Gallon that's mixed right. Keep going with that if necessary.

You should be able to replace the coolant with a couple gallons of antifreeze max, that'd make 4 mixed gallons.

Have a good Day !
