some time ago I seen a fellow using a homemade rig for lifting a sizeable weight that was used for pounding a well point into the earth in search of water. As I remember it , it consisted of a tire rim with a rope spun around it that was pulled tight and then slacked off so the weight would strike the drive head of the well point attached. Can't remember (senior moment) how it was powered or what the entire fabrication consisted of but would sure hope that you smart folks on this forum can help... photos, articles, discriptions or where to go for info and the like. Most info I can find for home-made rigs tell about hanging pulleys from tractors I am sure this is not what you meant though?
