ariens has a left auger and a right auger the one on the left does not move when started. I looked at the left hand side and there is a screw that goes thru the auger casing and into the shaft it has been sheared off. the one on the left is great i take it these are sheare pins of sort? we ran over a door mat and sucked it up so it jammed. I think thats what caused the bolt and nut to break. How do i get the auger out, Or can i just drill over a half inch and put a new hole thru both casing and shaft is the shaft solid like i think and if it is can i drill thru auger casing and a bit thru shaft and use a set screw. as long as it holds auger casing to shaft. we only use for lite duty snow.....Well and somtimes to eat door mats.

Thanx guys
Please note, although no boardcode and smiley buttons are shown, they are still useable

You are right, a shear bolt sheared in two or three pieces.

it did it's job by breaking, and protected the auger from any damage.

Get replacement shear pins at the dealers first. you will see that the pins look like they are partly sawn thru in two places, so those weakened spots will break when the auger is overloaded.

Replacement:: The holes it the shaft are in the same plain. So turn the loose auger so the shear-bolt hole faces the same way as the bolt in the other auger. Look in the hole in the auger and you should see the end of the piece still in the shaft. Punch it out with a punch or a heavy nail? In my Ariens the shear pin is a nut and bolt.

good luck
