I have a room with a light switch that controls an outlet. I am swapping out the old light switch and receptacle, but have lost the ability to control the receptacle from the light switch.
The light switch has 2 sets of wires running into it (1 with black/white, and one with black/white/red). The old switch was a single pole switch, and the old owner had the black/red wires spliced together (hopefully that makes sense) before going into the connector on the light switch. I replaced with a single-pole switch and wired it the same way.
On the receptacle side, it has 2 sets of wires (same config as above). Again, the red/black from the 3 wire set are spliced together.
Could it be simply that I have wired the receptacle wrong (flip flopped where the white plugs into and the black)? Or is there something more?
If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it.

Why did you replace the switch and outlet? Was something not working?
Were both the top and bottom receptacles switched? Is that what you wanted?
What were the 5 wires at the switch and outlet connected to originally?
Were the outlets that the cable from the first outlet went to switched also?
Ever notice that 'what the hell' is always the right decision?
