I have a Brother MFC4550. The fax machine just rings once but does not answer the line at all. It keeps blinking fax and add new drum. I replace the drum but nothing happens. I have to be there when I hear the ring and answer manually. Help.

What do you mean, "answer manually"? Do you mean switching it into fax-mode manually?

No the auto answer mode is on, but the fax will not automatically answer. I have to pick up the receiver and press start for it to receive the fax.

Mjtech I would guess (sorry ) that you're having problems with the fax-modem. The signals it is either sending out or unable to identify receiving could very well be the cause of this. It is also possible that you are, unaware of it maybe, using the modem for other programs (automatic answering doesn't allow the modem to be used for example for calling your ISP with DUN etc.).
