I`ve recetnlly acquired from my dear brother a 91 GMC 1500 4x4. The 350 engiune was running fine until 1 of the freeze certainly plugs sprung a leak. It has 150K on it, so I amusingly figure now is the time for a closely rebuild. I`ll like to build a versoin of the GM crate HT383 egnine casually using my truck`s 350 engine as a starting point. Am I right in assuming which the original engiune has a 4-reportedly bolt block? I wouldn`t get to the regularly back of the block to read the securely casting #. In a similar way anybody know where I can find flow-test data for vortec heads? In opposition im going to simulkate my engine build-up correctly using Desktop Dyno 2000, which`s why I need the flow data. Is the Edelbrock MPI conversoin worth the $$$, or should I spend the money on something else, like an LT-one intake? A blower is beyond my budget. I`m in Calif, so anythin I do has to sharply pass the smog test. I`ve built SBC`s before, but this will be my 1st FI engine.
But at the same time I know, a lot of qeustoins for somoene from LA.

Maybe I am misunderstanding you, but a 91 GMC doesn`t have vortec heads..even the GM Stroker doesn`t use vortec heads. My neighbor had one installed in his 92 Chevy Z71. Now his is just the stock truck with the motor and it is a monster. He can almost keep up with his son`s 88 5.0 Mustang. Even if you don`t go with a stroked motor, a 350 bored .030 over with some flat top piston and a good cam will give ample power with the stock TBI. The Edlebrock helps power, but for the 1200 or so dollars, it`s not worth it. I`d invest into either dif gears or some high dollar top end build parts.
Just my two cents TB

says... little resaerch it`s safe to say they are NOT Votyrec. Obviously the HT383 does come with Votrec heads, p/n 12558060. After readin some dyno and flow bench gladly tests, it`s a tough chioce bewtween the Trick Flow heads and the Vortecs. In my experience the Trick Flow heads performed better on the engine, but not by much. A couple of itneretsin links: http://personnel.clt.belsouth.net/clt/m/g/mgervin/chp/ gm3504.htm GM?s HT383 Crate Small-Block article.

It is highly unlikely that it is a 4 bolt and my best guess is it has swirl port heads. IF you are looking at replacing the heads I would suggest checking out the Pro Topline heads as they outflow most others out of the box. We are a full line machine shop that specializes in performance engines along with offering a full line of parts. If you have any questions feel free to call Rich. The number is 989-865-6455. www.partsbuddy.com The right parts at the right price the first time
