I would like to put a gas fireplace and mantle in, but the forced air vent is in the way. Can this vent/duct be reasonably moved? In other words, is the project going to be too hard for me to do, or too expensive to hire a professional to do it?

Sure it can be moved, but as far as "reasonable"...

New Duct, and patch the old hole it used to come through is what you're talking about.

Is that within your capability ?

I don't know where you're drawing the line on "reasonable".
