I may be way off base because I've never worked on a furnace before and I am clueless. There is a "wheel" on the furnace that spins prior to the electric coil heating up and igniting the gas. This wheel is not spinning-I think I just need a new bearing because it used to spin easily by hand and will no longer do that; also, it is very hot, and it's certainly not due to the furnace functioning! Can anyone give me guidance into buying and replacing this? Can I find some sort of schematic and instructions? If it were a gas or electrical problem I would call someone, but I have a feeling this is a pretty simple fix and we really can't afford to pay for it. And it's 22 degrees outside.

Hi daholliday, welcome to the forum

before replacing the bearings try to oil them first and see if it works - if not, then you always can replace afterwards

Thanks for the suggestion-I actually had to replace the igniter motor-after some research on the internet I figured out what I needed. We are now toasty warm again.

It is making small "hamster wheel" type noise when the igniter motor runs, though. It was doing that before, but if anyone has any suggestions to quiet it, I'd appreciate it. I hope that it's not a symptom of whatever caused the motor to burn up.
