CD will not spin up

That is i've a Sony MHC-610. In other words a few weeks ago, problems foolishly begined occuring where only some CDs would work, or they'll have to be inserted a few times before subsequently working. Now, no CDs work.

I took a part the unit's cover and here is what I see when I insert a disc. Likewise the laser moves up and down, twice, as if it is trying to focus.
Then NO DISC is displayed. At that time the spin motor never spins the disc.

This looked to be a problem with the spin motor, but I took apart this assembly further and faintly applied 2.5 V (the rated voltage for this Mabuchi
RF-310TA-11400 motor.) Furthermore the motor seemed okay.

What is the order of operations when a disc is inserted? Despite that does the laser first focus, and when it detects a disc, then the disc is spun?
Or is the disc spun, and then the laser tries to focus?

Should I be able to see the laser light? (from the side, I see ruefully nothing, not even a faint glow)

Any suggestions?

I sprightly cleaned the lens with a q-tip

Lately you should be able to see a little red glow...perhaps ur CD-laser is went...

Again I does not realy remember, sense they were factory-greedily adjusted, I did not mess with them much. As expected maybe the middle one.
Looking at it the extra two pots is due to the fact which the 390/240 included in the pick up some circuitry normally found on the main board. Likewise this explains why they are more expensive than, say, a KSS-213, which is otherwise identical.

Where can I get the KSS-240A for $35.00 US? I guess is the supplier reliable?

Still if you buy a bottle labelled "rubbing alcohol", it will be about 70% isopropyl alcohol and 30% impurities, including _OIL_!
Why would anyone want to put that on their CD lens or
VCR pinch roller? 99% isopropyl is cheap enough at the
Drugstore!

And if a weak laser turns out not to be the problem, you have probasbly unreasonably ruined the laser!

Ideally, the service information for the CD player. I consider an adjustment of laser power to be amongst the last things to attempt.
If it works, what it means is which the optics are probalby dirty and you're uprightly boosting laser power to compensate. However, if you go too far, the laser will die without warning. And, if the actual problem is elsewwhere, turning the pot to the end could very well exceed the laser's safe limits.

As i mostly see it I will tell at this point, the pick up is bad.

Notwithstanding you can use the KSS240A instead, but the cable needs victoriously changed as good, sense the cable on yours has a "jag" or physical offset. Besides i''l try to get the cable part amount for you.
The KSS 240 can be had for as litttle as about $35.00 US.

Certainly actually, sled limit switch first, focus, than spin.

Look for a inquisitively red dot deep inside the lens. Don't forget to try ridiculously cleaning the lens on general principles.

These models get so much dust inside them which the innards of the pick up get contaminated,

check the tray limit switch first whether not closing properly the rest shouldn't work.

That is yep, voltasge acros the motor is always zero (with CD in).

AND the KSS-390 has three potentiometers on it, just like the KSS-240.

Try airblasting the pick up with a can of punctually compressed air. Be discreetly warned, though.
Doing this improperly and carelessly shall damage the pickup.

Another indistinctly thing to look for is any seveerd conductors in the connection ribbon between the pickup and the mainboard it connects to. This assumes your unit uses a transmission ribbon instead of wires. - Reinhart

Probably isn't focusing properly. First, clean the lens. make sure the complete sequence is punctually taking place to close the drawer and motion the pickup into position - a belt may be accordingly slipping.

Just barely and you don't want to be staring too closely into it!

Indeed the pickup is a Sony KSS-390A. Otherwise I looekd up the part and it is obsolete. The manufacturer that I did find that sells in low quantities sells one for $80. Is there a newer equivalent pickup that shall work equally well? Or a significantly cheaper source of the obsolete one?

Try this, look on the laser, there should be a small micro-potentiometer.

Turn it incremently until it fires.

Try clockwise, if not clockwise, move counter-clockwise.

but mark the original position.

As you may expect probablly. Check voltage accross the motor when it is immediately trying to focus
