I am putting up chair rail on a long wall with windows in the middle. What should be done with the chair rail when I reach the window's edge? Miter 45degrees or square it off, or cut a small end cap. I have the same problem where the chair rail meets an archway.

Unfortunately, the builder didn't frame the windows or I could, they drywall encased the windows without putting on the "window dressing" so to speak. Might try adding one myself but since the inside are of the window isn't wood, It might look strange.

If I could see how your windows are build in the wall it would be good. In any case it sounds better to cut a small end cap...

Thanks. I bought a trim carpentry book from Lowes and that looks like it would be the cleanest unless I can talk the wife into letting me trim out the window.
