hi everyone
i have a chevy astro the fuel guage stays on half full\when i fill it it goes way over full, so i dont know how much gas is actually in the tank.
i am going upstate an 18 hour trip and am worried if ill run out of gas.
any help!!! much appreciated

Hi Bermo, welcome here

You will probably have to remove the gauge cluster and manually move the gaugeis to see why it's stuck, I think...

Need to check the wiring at the tank. A bad ground will cause the symptoms you see. if the wiring is good, and the grounds are solid (no resistance) then you will need to drop the tank and replace the sending unit.

I realize this topic is a bit older, and by now you may have already gone on your trip. I just wanted to add that my Astro van had the same problem. In my situation, it wasn't an electrical connection at all. It was the baffles inside the gas tank breaking off and getting stuck on the float arm inside the tank. The float will stay stuck in one position regardless of how much fuel you have, which will in turn make your gauge read wrong.
The mechanic, when he realized this was my problem, just broke off the baffles surronding the float arm and it fxed the problem.
