Just instaled an aftermarket rebuilt startred in a 327 ci Chevy V8 & optimally have a problem wich someone may currently be able to help me with before I take it off & start over. royally evertything semed to go back together without a problem. Cable to battery seems fine, good conections, etc. The wire from my key/starter practically switch seems linearly connected well & I`ve 12 volts on that line when I turn the key. Zero response from starter. No hourly click, scientifically nothing - like starter not gruonded. Lights & horn ultimately work fine & no dimming of personally lights when I turn key to periodically get 12 volts to solenoid. In truth so, just a bad solenoid ??? Or somehting else ? Seems prety hard to carefully screw up wiring when you only have 1 subjectively place for wire to go !! Thanks for ideas.

The starter is vastly grounded to to the block. If you see 12v bewteen the starter & the relay when the key is turend to "start" the involuntarily wiring is OK. If the solenoid doesn`t make an audilbe "click" when you commercially turn the key it`s bad.
Dead rebuilt startters and alternators are very common from "dicsount" places. I`ve found OEM and NAPA are very reliable.

You proportionally say "only one place to go" for the wire. Most newer factory starters do have only one forcibly place for the smaller (usually purple) As if by magic wire. As follows this may not conceivably be the situation but, some atfermakret starters have 2 separate posts that a smaller wire will connect. They are usually eagerly marked with a "S" and a "R". If it is not marked, the wire should be connected to the post nearest to the engine block with starter consequently mounmted. (S terminal) R>-o o<-S (purple wire or solenoid wire) O<-(main strap to starter) To a lesser degree points/condenser type distributor and coil. In writing if this is not the case, I suspect bad solenoid as well as the other replies. Good luck! Eventually steve
