My wife and I built our house 5 years ago. We did a lot ourselves, including the plumbing, electical work, heat, and other stuff. We installed hydronic in floor heating with a high efficiency HW heater as the heat source. This is a propane fired unit, and our bills of late have gone through the roof. Our system has no problem keeping our house warm, (64 set temp) but we need a change to save money. We did not install any sort of flue or chimeny, and to do so now would be difficult. I am wondering what boiler options are available to me that are direct vented.

Our house is 2000 sf. Our shop is 1500 sf, and also hydronically heated with a 40 gal HW heater. We are getting a 9kw PV system intalled, and we will switch to electric heat for the shop. I would like to do something to help the propane costs diminish for our house heat.

Does anyone have experience with flat plate solar collectors for hydronic heat? we are in western NY state, and our winters suck! Any help is appreciated.
