Craftsman 22 inch 5,5 hp snow thrower not throwing snow far

My father-in-law has purchased the above stated snow blower, when opertating it does not throw snow very far nor does it empty the bucket fast enough and runs out and leaves a line, the snow only goes a few feet.
the 2nd stage auger is turning and all shear pins seem to be ok. 2nd stage auger will turn by hand when the mail auger is lock when not started. Any suggestion Father-in-law is a stubbourn old OPP and will kill himself moving snow with this.

Beeg, welcome to the forum. The thing that caught my attention was the purchase thing. I think that if equipment doesn't work to the standards a seller is selling it at one should get a refund or replacement. Is it still in warranty?

have you checked the belt to see if its worn or loose.

I have the same problem. new belts, adjusted correctly, still will not throe snow more than 2 -3 feet, even worse with wet snow
