Craftsman chain saw fuel line

I'm having trouble threading the fuel line back into the fuel tank of my Craftsman cahin saw. Do you have to disassemble the fuel tank or is there some "trick" to getting it to go back into the fuel tank? It is really tight and I've tried pushing it through with a wire but it doesn't go in very far and it seems to be putting little holes in the line.

hey dude. i noticed you posted your question 6 months ago. did you get it figured out? i'm having the same exact problem getting the fuel line back through the hole. is it possible that i bought a line that's slightly too thick? did you discover a trick to getting it through?

Hi, #1 Mark down where the fuel lines from the primer bulb and the tank attach. THIS IS MY ISSUE NOW THAT MY LINE IS IN. I had to disassemble the choke assy remove the primer bulb. Slice the edn of the new line at an angle same as a syringe. Insert in hole, and push. NO BAD WORDS NOW! It took about 1hr with the help of a small jewlers screw driver pushing on the sides. GOOD LUCK

I am having a similar problem, but where my fuel line goes into the tank, there is nipple, which fell in the tank when I pulled the line off the top of the tank. I got the nipple out, but cant figure out how to put it back in the tank when I replace the line. Anyone else have this problem?

At the end of my fuel line in the tank was a filter (Craftsman chain saw). My issue now is keeping running. Especially at idle. It is quite a challenge.

install new gas line and pull it through the filler with a long needle nose plyers, put on nipple and pull the line back through leaving about an inch in the tank

You do not need the nipple. That connected the top part of the hose to the part of the hose in the tank from the factory. Just get a replacement hose and cut up the center off the hose about a half inch. Then cut half way across the line sideways (look at the picture below that I tried to draw!).

This give you a nice skinny piece of line that you can easily feed through and grab with pliers. Prior to pulling the line through spray wd-40 to make it pull through easy. This is what the line should look like when you try to feed it through. I find this is easier than an angle

Thanks, cutting the fuel line as directed worked great! Now it starts ok and runs, BUT w/n idle. Using 50:1 fuel. Haven't touched the idle screws yet. ANY SUGGESTIONS ?

the fuel line in the tank is long enough so that the gas filter sits at the bottom of the fuel tank correct? If not it could be pulling in air and make the saw run lean and not idle. The other suggestion would be to take off the carb and let it soak in carb cleaner. As the fuel line dissolved some of it probably made its way into the carb.

Assuming you had 2 fuel lines is the other one in good shape? Any crack in the line will create an air leak and the situation you are explaining.
