I have a Craftsman 18" bar 42cc chainsaw. It does not appear to be getting the bar and chain oil to the bar and chain itself. I have removed the outer case and appear to have cleaned everything in sight, but seem to be missing something. without the lube, the chain comes out of adjustment in minutes.

any help??? please??? have a pile of wood in my front yard that needs cut!!

Hi Maqaquzis welcome to the forum, I am happy you joined us

You first could try running the saw without the sprocket cover and bar on and see if oil is coming out of the oiling port. When this doesn't happen you will know the problem is between the tank and the oil outlet somewhere. When you do (see oil coming out) it means the bar is clogged up.

thanks for the response.

from what i have heard, this may have some type of "tube roller" system for moving the oil, and not an actuial pump. are you familiar with this method?

the bar is clean and free from debris. i believe the problem is with the tube tucked behind a metal plate that the bar mounts to. if you are familiar, how difficlut is it to change this tube?

If the saw is made by poulan (and I think it is) the problem may be the oil tank vent. It is pressed into the case of the saw and looks like a bronze pourous disk. I don't remember exactly where as its been a year or two scince I had to fix mine but i had to take the saw apart a good bit to see it. Look at a parts diagram, thats how I found it. If it is clogged it creates a vacuum in the tank and the oil cant flow. I cleaned mine with degreaser and compressed air. If mine ever clogs again I'm going to drill and tap it' install a nipple and a hose with a filter in an accessible place.

Hope this helps
