HELP! i know there are like a million topics on this but I can't seem to find an answer for my question.

Okay.. earlier today i was having an issue with the door itself and a neighbor manually brought it up and fixed the chain thing. NOW i can push the big button on the wall mount opener (and it goes up) but in order for it to go down, i have to hold the big button down. How do I fix that? AND i tried the remote from the car and that doesn't work either??!! grr....

someone please help!! Thanks so much!!

My initial thought would be that the safety cut off is being triggered (by being out of alignment perhaps, or blocked). This would explain why it won't let you close the door except by overriding (holding down the button manually).

virtually every garage door opener has a safety laser 'eye' (usually mounted down at the bottom of the railing by the floor) which "sees" something blocking the closing of the door (like an elevator door). since it bounces an IR light off a reflector, and back to the receiver, if the emitter (the light) or the reflector has been knocked off (out of alignment), the opener thinks something is in the way of the door closing and doesn't want to close. different openers react differently to this. a simple test is to take the reflector and put it right in front of the emitter/receiver... if the door closes normally, you know what the problem is. Maybe thats it, maybe not

Good luck!

My 315 worked well for more than one and a half years but suddenly last week it began to go forward for a short while and immediately reverse. I checked your problems and solutions and diagnostic chart but could not find a problem although i had the unit on the bench/. I had a single flash for some time and it changed to three flashes subsequently. However i can have the unit perform reverse and forward fully once i shorted the red and white wires of the sensors. However to obtain a reverse action I had to unshort and short again. Further at times the unit will not start and there will be a series ofr clicks and the light bulb wil flash and at the end of the clickis stay lighted. I cannot find the problem and will welcome any help. I live in Trinidad and there are no Sears outlets here to which I can take my unit.\r\nThanks
