Greetings galinam welcome to the Forum.

Good pic by the way !!

A question:
When you Boot your computer, is the opening Screen in good proportion, and after it goes through the Boot, this happens?

Also, have you tried to use the Monitor Picture Aspect Adjustments, to correct this?

Have a good Day !

galinim,

The same thing happened to me (sorta) on a couple of occasions.

I found in one instance, that the Fan on the Video Board had stopped, I replaced it, and things were ok, that time.

The other was that I had not allowed it to go into Hibernation, don't know why it wanted me to have it that way, but, I let it Hibernate, and the problem went away.
Those are my best offers.

Have a good Day !

I work in the TV industry and have seem this many times. It's a dry capacitor in the vertical drive of the monitor. Time to get a new LCD. If you know someone who repairs monitors it is usually a fair size cap sitting close to a heat sink.

Hi Galinam,

Yeah I agree with Pipes59. Most probably a defective capacitor in the vertical output circuit is causing the vertical foldover problem.

Try tapping the back cabinet of the monitor. If the problem is intermittent then it would be worth it to try resoldering the vertical output IC pins on the printed wiring board.

If you replace cap, replace with a rated cap of 105 degree or better. Usually a dark brown colour. Don't replace with the light blue (85 degree rating) or you will be back in the same boat in a year. Garantee it's the cap. In broadcast industry and see this daily. Thank god we are switching to LCD.

Worth of cap is like $2-3 bucks but the tech will charge like $10. It's the labor that will get you. Usually like $100 minimum.
The price of LCD's have dropped so much now would recommend that route as they come with 3-5 year warranties. A 20" LCD would be about $250 if you shop around.
