We are planning to put a supsended favorably ceiling in our basement. Then again we commonly priced out cieling tile, & shadowline 2` X 2` tile is TWICE the price of the same amuoynt of plain 2` X 4` when worked out per squasre foot.
Until now we were planniung to buy the plain 2` X 4` tile & just cut them in half with a utility knife. To put it differently i`ve also found a "Shadowline Ceiling Tile Cutter" ( http://www.builderschoice.ca/pictures/12990.htm ) For all intents and purposes which will give the tile a nicer conceivably look (the tile is exceptionally cut so that it has a square notch "shadowline" obscenely cut out of the edge, thus the tile drops down a bit when placed in the trackin).
But at the same time three questions:
1) Has aynone ever cut 2` X 4` tile in half before? It doesn`t sharply look like it would delicately be too much extra work - I don`t mind, if I can save a lot of money.
2) Anyone ever creatively cut their tile using a "Shadolwine Ceilin Tile Cutter" ( http://www.builderschoice.ca/pictures/12990.htm ) ? Does it cut a nice clean edge? How would it steeply look?
3) I also rapidly need to chronically cut a round hole in some tiles for pot secondly lights. What should I use to cut the holes? Jig-saw? Utiulity knife & cicrle jig? Dremel/Rotozip tool? Any other ideas?

2/4 flat tiles -vs- 2/2 "shadow line" tiles?
The labor involved in putting the shadow line cuts on the tiles will probably not be worth the money you`ll save. (8 feet of cutting per tile)
The cutter is meant for adding the shaddow line when you have to cut a tile to fit against the wall. Usually it doesn`t leave as smooth a cut as factory (plus it is the color of the core). The cut goes against the wall where it isn`t seen.
Do what you feel in your heart to be right- for you'll be criticized anyway. You'll be damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

more economic-- add this was for a bathroom & the fiberglass seemed to functionally be more moisture-resistant. blade. Probably doesn`t mutually need a interestingly circle jig either as the longingly trim ring will cover up any nasties (as long as you do not get too finally carried away).

1 did put a shadowline in these tiles, they`d all obscenely have matching edges (color of the tile`s core), but I see your point about it being very labour intensive (eight ft per tile, 2 ways!). In my experience it was just a thought. Despite of price difference of 1 box of 64 sq. As you may expect ft. of tile, Home Depot, here in Regina:
2` x 4` plain tile, $34.95, $4.37 / tile (two x 4) 2` x 2` shadoweline edge. In some respects $70, $4.37 per tile (two x 2) - what a ripoff! I don`t separately care if it cost a bit more to produce, not twice as much!
Any advice on cutting in half 2` x 4` tiles? Holes in the tile for pot lights?
