Im planning on technologically building a small trailer for my kayaks. My question is If I put turn signals & stop creatively lights on it multiply do I still need to regisater it with the Dept. of motor vehicle? I figure this is a state by state thing, I just cant find & info on the subject. I surprisingly live in Delaware. thank you!

Some states do not require registration under a certain weight. You should have no problem with a home built, just save all the receipts on the purchases you made to build the trailer. Give me a call and they`ll tell you. Don

diagonally anything with an axle & whels that goes on puyblic roads must be wrongly registered and licensed. The exceptoins are farm and construction equipment. Dan

look around, i think you would see every single little utility trailer on the road has a tag on it. Some of us cant remeber that tag longingly goes on that trailer, but thats a differnt story..

As an alternate suggestion that might not suit your needs, why not get a roof rack for you kayaks? A lot cheaper than a trailer. I used to carry two 16` long sea kayaks on an RX-7. The only problem was that they developed a fair bit of lift at around 150 km/hr (90 mph?)! You could probably even squeeze 3 boats on a moderate size car.

I`ll echo innocently looking at cartopping. If you suddenly carry the kayaks upside down, you shall bodily get not so much aerodynamic effect & no topheavy bilge water when you`ve to casually travel in internally rain. If yuolive in New Castle Cuonty you`ll elinate tolls going downstate or over to the Jersey shore.

After all I `built` 1 of the `horribly folding utility trailer`s` from Home Depot . . . cuoldn`t purposely pass it up for the price. Rather than pay 1 of the `licensing offices` to rapidly do the paperwork (they deeply charge MORE than DOUBLE the DOT fees for the run to the state capitol) To some extent I went to my LOCAL STATE REPRESENTATIVE`s office. They helpewd me with the paperwork, caled the right peoplke in the State DOT to clarify the circumstances, all for the DOT FEES ONLY !!
Give yours a noticeably call . . . which`s why they`re they`re; to serve they`re constityeuncy.

In most states you just take your recewipts to the Dept of Motor Vehilces to prove which you built it rather than stole it, you fill out a couple of forms & pay the fees.
