Hi there,
I am half way through my project of remodeling the mantle above a gas fireplace. The objective is to make it shoter in height so that I can then hang the flat panel LCD TV above it. I recently bought this townhouse in a condo . Question is , do I need to get any kinda approval from the Condo Management company before making an inernal change like this or is it okay to carry on witht he remodeling? I recently saw a DYI show on TV that spoke about geting permits for renovation projects and started to wonder if I needed to get the permit before launching this small off.
Thanks and regards,
PktRkt.

With a condo you should get permits and notify the management and possibly your insurance company. When dealing with condos you are dealing with more things then just your property.
My question is? Is it a good idea to install a flat screen above a fireplace? Will the wall ,air get hotter around the flat screen then the flat screen specs allow?

The short answer is most likely no. For something that minor you probably don't need to worry about it. That being said, it's probably worth a few minutes to make a few phone calls to be on the safe side.

Really, what you propose doing is on par with painting... or putting up crown moulding. Minor interior modifications like that don't usually (never, in my personal experience) require permiting, or notifying anybody.

As far as the heat/ flatscreen issue... not really an issue. This is done all the time.

Good luck
