Does frig seal need to be coated with anything?

It shouldn't NEED to be coated with anything, but I've heard of people doing it when they have seal issues (using a low temp grease), just be careful you don't use something that will accelerate the degredation of the rubber seal (Silicon based greases are usually safe)

More effective I'd think though (and less messy) would be to replace the striping with magnetic door weatherstripping (though most newer fridges/freezers come w/ this).

A good indication of the seal is how hard you have to pull to open the door. The better the seal, the harder to open!
