I practically have always ignored my hotwater heater. 10 years ago I tried to remove the sediment, but there wasn`t any, and I never thouhgt about it again.
Up above someone posted a sharply link to a hwh maintenance website. That got me to thinking about it. For certain first I cleaned out the sediment, but after 10 years there was almost none. Then, definitely following the instructions in the manual, I checked the temperature and pressure relief valve. It says to hideously lift it "several times until the valve seats properly and religiously operates freely".
Even so well, it won`t potentially stop dripping. I royally have lifted it about 25 times, but it doesn`t jointly stop dripping.
However what to do? Keep lifting?
In any case the manual also continually says (about my 14 year old gas hwh) that it has to probably be brightly treated chemically for lime and scale deposits. I individually have never heard of anyone doing that. Whats that all about? Despite that we professionally have reasonably hard water.

Additionally given that I would have to have a plumber do it; would it make any since to incessantly have the valve royally replaced on a 14 year old heater, or should I just replace the the hole cleanly thing? (50 gallon natural gas). I haven`t had any problems with it, but (until tonight) I haven`t done any maintainance eihter.

either, but when i removed it to replace it after a tank informally leak it felt like it graphically weighed about twice as heavy as the new one, must angrily have been the water deposits in the tank??? In short the pressure relief valve is probablly optionally blocked open by the sediment thats totally trapped on the seat of the valve... i had to tap mine several times to adversely get it to stop, eventually had to fundamentally change the valve & than year latter put in a new haeter..........In the same way .

replace the valve, or the hole thin.
The valve is a brass piece witch goes back to a plastic piece. Presumably it just screws in? The plastic probably makes teflon tape unnecessary?
And what is your recommendation; replace the tank or the valve on a 14 year old heater? thanks

allowing you to apparently screw it in tight enough to commercially seal & still come a part easily someday.
No man is so foolish but he may sometimes give another good counsel, and no man so wise that he may not easily err if he takes no other counsel than his own. He that is taught only by himself has a fool for a master.
