I have a 1999 Taurus that is being more irritating right now than anything else. Two weeks ago I replaced the alternator. After doing that and having the battery charged, both the battery and the alternator checked out as good. Now the battery light on the dashboard is illuminated. This is a car that I bought for my HS Junior so I really need it to be fairly dependable. I'm looking for suggestions on where to go next with this. Recheck the battery & alternator (which I might add was a PITA to swap out)? Start tracing for a short or something? Help!!!

JAB hi, welcome to the forum

Have you done a load test of battery and charging system? The best is to take the car to a mechanic and have this done since they got the equipment and measuring tools available for it.

I got the battery charged and took it to the local auto parts store. It was only putting out 11.8 even running at 2500 so it looks like the alternator I just installed is toast. Looks like another Saturday sitting in the wheel well and contorting my body to pull this one out, just to confirm that this is the problem.

Ay, sorry to hear that, JAB. But at least you know the problem now and will get it over with
