I have an 88 Nissan truck with a 4cyl. 2.4 liter engine. Recently, it started to knock really loud after I filled up. I always put regular unleaded and never had a problem. I don't know if its an Octane thing or what. Any answers will be appreciated.

Hi Truckstop88, welcome to the forum I hope you will like it here.

The knocking has to do with the spark ignition, and when pockets of air/fuel mixture explode outside the area of the normal combustion front one experience the 'knocking'.

The air/fuel charge needs to be ignited only by the spark plug and also at a precise time within the piston's cycle. When the peak of the combustion process doesn't occur anymore at the optimum time in the four stroke cycle it creates the knocking...

I think it might be a wise idea to have your spark plug checked
