We had a repairman out for this problem 6 onths ago and now have over $500 in a $500 dollar fridge! We are moving and I refuse to put another dime in this thing.

The freezer is making ice, but so much that the arm gets stuck on top of the cubes...the bucket fills in 2-3 days. I have to keep it emptied to allow for more ice. In addition there is water collecting under the freezer, just above the top shelf of the fridge. When I pull the milk out and hit the top of the fridge, water drips or splashes out from above. I'm having to keep a towel inside the fridge to catch the water.

Hopefully I can do this on my own because my husband lives 600 miles away right now and would have me call the repairman again! Thank you!

Yourfinds, you have to call the repairman. If he charged you that amount of money (which sounds outrageous to me) for a repair job that he didn't repair, it is his responsibility to get it repaired, like with a guarantee.

He charged me $256 after looking at it 5 minutes. Said it was for parts and service call and he would be back when the parts came in. I went out of town for a few days and my husband was here when he fixed it. He told me the guy needed some other parts too and it was another $250...that was when I flipped! So, the problem he fixed this past spring is back, only that time we had a leaky fride with no ice.

I'll wait before I call him out and pay him another service call for something MAYBE I can do in 15 minutes myself.

It would seem to me that the ice control arm micro switch is not operating and is probably broken. The best solution is to replace the whole unit. They are not worth fixing. I didn't see the model of ice maker you have but for a example I have a Whirlpool/Sears..I went online and found where I could order a brand new basic ice maker for 88.00 bucks. If the arm is bad it probably has other problems coming.
It might take some reading to make sure you are ordering the right thing but most of these units plug right in and maybe 2 bolts to secure it.
This would be the basic ice maker and not associated parts such as augers, crushers and ice doors. Many of those have to come from the manufacture because they are designed just for a special model.
