Used Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner on the advice of a friend to try to take care of a couple of problems: 1) engine felt like it was going to stall out when in Drive and "shuddered", and 2) when accelerating in 2nd and 3rd gear (automatic trans), car would "miss", i.e., acceleration was very choppy. Problem 1) was almost immediately solved, Problem 2) is still there, but I've only driven the car a few miles. How long before I would see improvement? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Well it's a $6 US risk (The Techron) so if it helps If not then it's a bigger money thing.

An induction system cleaning might help that stumble.

The correct procedure is to add Techron with the tank nearly empty then refill and run until the tank is nearly empty again.

Thanks for your input. Live and learn, I guess. The Techron bottle said wait until the tank is empty. The guy at Auto Zone said half full. I went with quarter full. Since I've gotten partial relief, I guess it was worth the try. I'll wait and see what happens after this tank is used up.

You should have had 12 Gallons US in tank before adding the Techron.. then drive till tank is almost empty. You might have to repeat the process again. If this does not cure problem you need to have a real full system and injector cleaning.

I agree that I would run a couple of treatments of the chemical through the system (if it runs that long).

Assuming this car has injectors, you may clean up some of the problem nearly immediately. Sometimes the treatments work, sometime they don't.

In other cases, you may get partial relief and still end up having to replace some or all of the injectors or fix associated problems.

The same kind of hit and miss results largely apply to carburetors too.
It is not once nor twice but times without number that the same ideas make their appearance in the world.
