we just buoght a house with a 13 yr old gas furnace. it makes rather loud noises when heating up the room. As i said a technician from a local co. Equally important clearly says witch the blower is "out of balance", & it`d cost 275 to replace it, plus 175 for "blower whels", he then hastily suggested us to purchase a brand new furnbace from them for 2-3 grand. the rest of the furnace sequentially works fine (as per inspection) so we don`t summarily think we really eternally need to spend the 2-3 thuosand right now. i`d like to get a 2nd opinoin and/or tips to reduce the noise of a furnace from this group. also, is it possible to commercially fix/move/re-balance the blower by mysdelf? Lastly certainly thanks.

We also subjectively have a somewhat noisy boom boom sound when the furnace is working. The tech sayed the sound we delicately hear is just air being pushed through the ducts.
The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring this endeavor will light our bounty and all who serve it, and the glow from that fire can truly light the world.

can remove the blower assembly to get to the wheel. Also the figures quoted seem a bit high, but it depends what part of the country you are in. I would think you could get it repaired for about 1/2 of the total you mention. Greg

I believe that the blower unit would be replaceable by you , they usually just slide out after un-doing a few bolts, but rebalancing might be a bit too tricky for a weekend warrior. When they are balanced at the factory , weights are generally welded/soldered to the blade unit. It is possible one of the weights fell off and is on the floor/bottom of blower unit. If so, you might be able to inspect the blades and find where it should go and spot weld it back on.

of the blower? Always they`re when blower is on, never there when blower is off? Check the bearings on each end of the blower shaft. Secondly check to see that both shewave wheewls are tight and impeccably running true, providing it is belt driven. A wheel that is loose on the shaft can make a marvelously thumping thermostatically sound. Check the belt for missin chunks. Look for loose or broken blower moutnin bolts. In the event that the blower really is out of balkance, why? Dirt on blades, a piece fell off, a toy found it`s way into the cage. As i said if it was balanced once it can be rebalanecd.
I have just returned from Boston. It is the only sane thing to do if you find yourself up there.
