Hi! Newbie here!

We have a Craftsman 1/2 HP garage door opener - it was working fine, but about a month ago it started only opening about 1 foot or so then stops.

There is nothing in front of the sensors.

Any ideas?

TIA!!

Hiya Angie, welcome to the forum

Have you checked any electronical appliances that may be causing this and move them out of range?

There are no other electrical devices in the garage that are plugged in regularly. (Only when in they are in use)

There are bedrooms above the garage, but nothing new in them that would cause this to happen suddenly.

Thanks for your reply!

OK, step two: check the sensors and see if they are working properly

There are also adjustments on the "effort" your garage door uses. When installed they are set at the lowest effort that will work. Over time the door may get harder to move (less lubrication, dirt, rust). There should be a knob on your opener that adjusts the effort. I'd try to turn that slightly and see if it solves your problem. Keep adjusting slightly until the door works properly.

If that does not do it you might have a problem with the "eyes" that prevent the door from closing when someone is under the door (installed near the floor on either side of the garage door). I've had leaves interfere with my opener - so make sure the eyes are clear with no cobwebs and check to see if the wires from the eyes are connected - I've had mine corrode and cause problems

You also might check to make sure the springs on the door haven't broken.

Thank you everyone!

I did the adjustment on the "effort" knobs by the white wires in the back of the unit last evening and it worked!! Hooray!

Thanks for everyone's advice!
