Hello everyone,

I'm a brand new member, hope this is the appropriate forum for my question.

I'm trying to diagnose a problem with our electric cooktop whose front right burner stopped working recently. All of the other burners still functio. The "hot surface" light comes on when I turn the burner switch on, but the burner itself does not.

I know almost nothing about electronics, but made my best attempt at using a multimeter to test for continuity in the element. I also attempted to verify that the switch was working, which it seemed to be.

I went ahead and ordered a replacement element, figuring that must be the problem. Got it tonight, installed it, and.... nothing changed.

So: other than the heating element and the switch, is there something else I should be looking at?

Many thanks in advance for any help out there...

Greetings smoove welcome to the Forum.

I hate to tell yo this, but...
Usually there are four Elements on a Stove.
Two large, two small.
You could have switched out the two (same size) elements, checking to see if the problem followed the element. Oh well!

You might still try that, no telling if the new element is good or not.
But, it does look like the problem in in the Switch. They're not hard to replace.

Thanks SW,

There are indeed four elements... unfortunately the one that's not working is the only one of its size (9", the other three are all smaller.

I'll look again at the switch, though.

Thanks for the reply

My buddy works on electric stoves all the time. I'll see if I can get him to take a look at this thread.

Thanks Nyeah and welcome to the Forum.

Every little bit helps !

My advice to smoove, if he's never changed out a switch before, is maybe make a little drawing of the switch/wires.

It's of course best to get a direct replacement control for the element, but several might work, and having some notes on how the wires were connected, may help in getting working.

Have a good Day !
