Did you happen to get that timing belt replaced yet. GM has a special tool for arranging the cams prior to installing the belt. $300 tool. Didn't know if you got away without using that tool.

The alignment of the cams can be done without a tool but it is a bear. You have to start with holding tension on the belt as you travel in one ,and get the cams all turned correctly and I clamped them with little "C" clamps to keep them from jumping off once I got each one right, all the time keep the tension on the belt continuing down to the tensioner pulley. Once everything is correct you release the pin on the tensioner and rotate it carefully to check alignments. It has been a few years since I did mine but that is what I remember doing about 6 times. I had trouble with the tensioner not the alignment. I recommend a new one each time. Chalk mark the cams so you see them easily and use a socket on the cambolt to turn it in the right direction for alignment.
