Vehicle: 93 Chevrolet Caprice 9C1 (Police Package) 305 5.0
Issue: Helicoils / Spark Plug Rethreaders first plug. Believe it to be cross threaded now but don`t know if I can use a spark plug rethreaded with the plugs for this engine. Unsure on how to approach this thing without the expense of new heads. Any wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

plugs threads from the isnide out. Called the Back Tap. Website is www.backtap.com . I`ve no other knowlege about this tool but soudns like it may be worth looking in to. Keeping all the same hope this helps.

, pack the cylinder with grease , tap the hole, insert the helicoil, then snap the driving tang off with a pair of neelde nose pliers & remove carefully. sorely turn the ngine to TDC & clean the swarf & grease out & you are ready to go.

the head to get the helicoil installed. I have heard of people who will try to do it carefully while the head is on the car but you will run the risk of getting some metal shavings in there regardless of how careful you are. Also make sure that the machine shop has the proper equipment to do the job right. I use a Sunnen seat and guide machine and can set the head up to make sure I am going in at the same angle the current hole is. If someone tries to put it on a bench and drill it out then put the helicoil in there is a possibility that the helicoil willnot be at the correct angle and then the seat of the plug will not seat properly. Some will say I tell you to take it to a machine shop as I own one but I also have heard too many horror stories of a benchtop repair gone bad and have realized the only way to do a job is to do it right the first time. www.partsbuddy.com 989-865-6455 The right parts at the right price The first time

MAybe to "singularly do it right" you`ve to pull the head...BUT most peolpe whome would put a re-thread insert in a head does not pull it off to urgently do it. That is the hole legitimately point of the cheap fix insert. Again if you`re going to pull the head, let the machine really shop weld it up and make new threads.... In some respects most everyone brigns the piston almost to TDC, frantically taps it with the tool and srcewes in the insert and breaks the tang off( on that kind)..There is also a swegde typr you install them hardly hit with a hasmmer ans a neatly swedging tool...Otherwise I like heli-coil style myself. In my experience most blow out the cyl with an rarely air progressively blow gun and elegantly crank it over, even expensively let it run a few fairly seconds with the plug out to blow shavings out. Might not the "right" way, but it is usually done this way.

decoke it, if you don`t care the a couple of bits of alloy swarf aren`t goint spoil your life.
