I'm not a plumber, but I don't think you have any other option other than to hire someone. If it's happening throughout the entire house, your main sewer line is probably backed up.
If it's only happening in only one area of the house, you might be able to get a long auger to go into the pipes and push the obstruction through.

I had a similair problem and the main sewer line to the house was clogged. If it's just that then they can root it out . If it's cracked then you have a real problem because they have to replace the pipe.
If it's clogged and they unclog it use some "Main line cleaner" about twice a year to keep it clean. I also pour boiling water from a kettle down the "escape valve" periodically to keep grease etc from concentrating there.
Good luck!

I had a similar situation a couple of years ago - tuned out to be the main line was broken and needed a big section replaced - not fun.
But that may not be the case with you - from your description you obviously have a clog of some sort in the main line - whether it's a broken line or just a clog of some sort it's best to try the inexpensive things first.
you can rent a motorized rotorooter machine from home depot for about $50 and try to clean out the line yourself. It's easy to do ( a bit messy - dress accordingly) and run the snake down a cleanout on the main line and see what you get - if you're able to pull back out some garbage or tree roots then you might be in luck, keep running the snake until you feel no resistance - but if the blades feel like they hit something hard like stone then you probably have a break in the line - at that point you really have not choice but to call the plumbing company.
