I have solid oak kitchen cupboard doors on my lower kitchen units but i have 3 wall mounted units without doors. I've been pricing solid wood doors and they are loadsa money so i am looking for a suggestion to cover the doors in something of a wood effect as per the rest of the doors. My ingenious idea was to cover some MDF with wood like fablon paper, cut out a grooved straight edge within the MDF with a grouter (as per the other doors) then fit them onto the carcases, but big tone asked me how would i get the fablon around and over the edge of the gouged area without it looking a mess? ? (i hope what i'm saying here makes sense)

Most home improvement centers have edging available. it's a roll of veneer w/ adhesive attached (usually ~3/4" wide). you just iron it on the edge. Usually it's available in wood (stainable), or melamine.

Sheets of veneer are also usually available that you can put on the MDF w/ contact cement.

Good luck!
