High hydrocarbons at idle and Stalling just as car warms.

Some answeres but questions also. In order of severity here are my problems.

1. Stalling especially on first trip of day at about the 4 to 7 minute mark. Infact it is like the key is off for about 3 to 5 seconds while I am driving sometimes and if it comes to a stop can be real hard to start for a couple of minutes.

2. High hydrocarbons at idle. just over limit
Questionable gas milage 23 MPG city
3. Rough idle (my mechanic says it really is not bad and not to worry about it)
4. Battery dies after sitting maybe a month or less.

We have replaced cooling sensor, wires, plugs, not sure about the cap but it looks pretty good, Infact the last shop I took it to (had no gas analyser) said everything looks new, regaped my pretty new plugs and charged me $65(as well they should for thier time). The car was stalling everytime I stopped after a lot of tuning from my mechanic friend. I took it back to him and I think he detuned the timing a bit.
Now the stalling is maybe 3 or 4 times in the morning a week. But bad stalls even at speed.

I was considering the hall effect (distributor pickup) but it is nearly $60 and I dont think it would make the car stall on que 5 minutes after starting first thing in morning only.

The choke is on my mind. I will try to check it but I dont know much about them.
I am sitting here thinking...Ya i bet it is the dam choke.

Any thoughts on the four problems?

Also can I ask about my 91 dynasty? The battery is going dead after sitting for a long while....While I am driving my daughters car LOL.
I saw a tip of pulling all the fuses and seeing if that fixes the problem. Sounds good.

We are selling the car but as I go to mexico often......... and I think this is a very solid little car............ and a pleasure if somewhat spartan to drive................. I may keep it for my trips and quite flying.

The car with ...high hydrocarbons at idle...AND stalling at the 4 or 5 minute mark on the first trip of the day... is a 1987 reliant 2.2 engine with almost everything replaced according to the last shop I took it to (they didnt find the answer.
By the way I now suspect the choke as I said and a guy told me the high speed idle was what caused similiar problem with his car.
The battery is almost new and works fine if I am driving fairly regulary I think.
By the way I am starting to really like the simplicity and other characteristics of this little econo box. New shocks etc make it a good handling machine. Using the gears (all 3 LOL) it can have a bit of zip also.

How old is the battery? Most batteries don't last much past 5 years.

In general high hydrocarbons means unburned fuel....
