We have been able to hear water rushing through the pipes of our baseboards this year and have never noticed this in the past. Husband bled all the valves of air when we first turned it on. Now, even though the water was still rushing through, it is cold. There IS a pilot light and it will fire up if we manually turn the shutter, but then it clicks off again. If we bleed some of the water off, it will fire up briefly then shut down again. PSI is between 12 and 15. ANy clues?? Please help. The house is cold and its Sunday!

Could the thermostat be malfunctioning perhaps?

Jeffie,
Thanks for the input. We do have another non programmable around here somewhere that we could switch back to, just to see.

Ok, we had to have the vent damper replaced. As soon as it was hooked up, the furnace started firing properly and has been maintaining heat as it should... howEVER, it is now dumping 'excess' water every time it heats up, which means the pressure keeps going over 30psi when hot. This is supposed to be a closed system and that water release valve is only a safety feature, right? The pressure is staying where it should, so it must be taking on extra water all the time. I'm wondering if an intake valve is open or leaking, or there is a leak in the system which would require it to keep filling. Or some water filling sensor is jacked as well.( I don't see a smiley for the rolling of eyes). ~sigh~

A relief valve will discharge for any of the following

1- Automatic feeder not set to proper pressure ( between 12 -15 PSI)

2- Automatic feeder is allowing excessive pressure by being defective

3- Expansion tank flooded or the bladder needs recharging

4- If this boiler is also used for domestic H /W water the coil could be leaking and cause pressure build up

Hey Tieger plumber,
Thanks so much for your input. Good knowledge and advice. We ended up replacing the expansion tank(40.00 from our local plumbing supply) and everything is finally running as it should. The bladder was shot. Heck of a job getting the old tank off. Husband put some pvc pipe over the handle of his pipe wrench for extra leverage while I held the network of pipes it was attached to, and it finally let go. If nothing else, we've learned a great deal about how this system works and how to fix it.

I have an issue that I am babbled by and that is my basement is heating and is on its own zone however my main floor is not heating up on the other zone (however) my top floor heats up to beat the band. Now I sweitched the ther, states around they are both honeywell and the same so since it seems that I have the same issue as before.. Question, isn't the top floor due to being on the same zone as the first floor within the same water feed asm it runs through the first and second floor??? Making no sence to me helpp .. Thanks

If the top floor is hotter that's normal as heat rises.

If the second floor fin tube or rads are not getting heat it is possible there is air in the line even on the same zone heating this can occur.

Also check to make sure no one closed any valves that could affect the 2nd fl
