I have a 50 Gallon Hot Water heater. The breaker keeps kicking off after a couple of hours. I have replaced both heating elements along with the thermostats and a new circuit breaker. It is on a 40 amp breaker. It worked fine for three years.
Thanks for any help before I by a new one.

Greetings micmac70 welcome to the Forum.

Wow, that's a toughy !

Don't know if you've done this, but, it's something I'd like to know, before I went to any more expanse on it.

Amp Draw:
You checked it with an AmpMeter ?
First stage heat, then both.
How close is it to the 40 amps, when it's running full bore ?

Voltage:
You put a meter on it ?
Line to Line, and each Line to Ground under load ?
Think you could be close, when you think it's about to trip ?
Also Voltage on the Lines, when it's not calling for heat (same as above).

Give me some numbers, and we'll go from there.

Have a good Day !

Hello SW,

Thanks for the info about amp draw and voltage but not being good on electricial I would most likely have to call a electrician which would cost $$$. Sometimes it runs 4 to 6 hours and then it will run for 25 or 26 hours before kicking off. I think I will purchase a new one for what everything will cost to try to repair this one.

Appreciate all your help.
